I am Afraid to Start
Have you ever put off your goals of getting healthy? You either wait until after a holiday, your birthday, or overwhelmed with the warmer season approaching?
What are we waiting for?
Do we think we are going to:
- Miss out
- Not get results
- Feel deprived
I know this is why I have put off starting over. I have tried a couple health and fitness routines with some success. After some time, I have slid right back into old habits.
I am afraid to start . . . again.
But I’m going to do it anyways! I appreciate second, third, and forth chances.
Not only am I starting over, I am sharing it with others. Online. For all to see!
I decided by making myself vulnerable, it gives me accountability.
Accountability can offer us encouragement.
It keeps us from hiding, making excuses, and gives someone to lean on when we hear the negative voices in our head.
Are these issues more about pride? Not wanting to be seen as a failure?
Pride could wind me up with heart disease, cancer, with very serious health consequences.
Isn’t that what most of our conflicts in life are about? Pride?
Can we let go of pride and acknowledge we need to take care of the one body that God gave us?
Admitting where we have fallen short is the first step. It’s also the first step in STARTING your new life.
Let’s not let pride keep us from our best life.
Our time on this earth is very short.
Living to eat doesn’t sound very exciting compared to what I could be doing if I felt lighter and stronger.
What could you be doing if you made the decision to say YES to starting?
- Play with the grandkids
- Ride your bike
- Hike with your spouse
- Energy to go the whole day
- Travel abroad
- Start a new hobby
- Wear a swim suit to the beach
- Take a cruise
- Fill in the blank
Let’s give ourselves the boost we need to get started!
You have your rating. Do you remember the basics?
Before you begin tapping, get a picture in your mind how you will remain in your unhealthy state for the rest of your life because you are afraid to start a new routine, or whatever it is for you. Think about why that upsets you. It’s important you have that clear in your mind.
Keep that picture in your mind as you begin, and notice as you go through the sequence where your mind takes you.
Karate Chop: (Set-up Statement) This only needs to be said at the very beginning of sequence, it does not need to be repeated between each round.
- Even though I am scared to makes changes in my life, I love accept myself anyway.
- Even though I am being stubborn about starting a new routine, I accept who I am.
- Even though I don’t know where to begin, I accept myself anyway.
Top of Head:
I want to look better and have more energy
But I honestly don’t want to do the work
Side of Eye:
I hate the idea of not being able to eat what I want
I don’t like feeling like I HAVE to do something
It can be hard to stick with a program
I have failed before
I don’t want to embarrass myself by failing again
It would be nice if this could work
Top of Head:
I would love to feel good in my clothes again
Having more energy could change how I function everyday
Side of Eye:
I’d love to feel like myself again
And feel confident to walk in front of a mirror
I want to start taking good care of myself
And continue to make this a lifelong habit
I can use tapping as my will power
I am excited for a fresh start to my new and improved self!
Take a deep breath.
CHECK YOUR RATING AGAIN. Where are you on the 1-10 scale?
Do you feel like you are still annoyed or scared about the whole idea of making changes? Go another round, change up the wording. You are taking this from a negative to a positive.
Will power is going to be found by connecting with God, prayer, and gaining focus with tapping.
Keep practicing tapping.
Use the scripts on this site, or talk yourself through the tapping points. Keep track of your thoughts and make notes on emotions or memories that come up.
Imagine retraining your brain so starting isn’t such a task.
