Ways to Quickly Stop Obsessing When You Are Thinking About Food
Thoughts about food can happen even faster than a blink of an eye.
How often do you think about food?
More than most things in your life?
I think about food. Often.
STRUGGLING WITH FOOD
Being tempted to eat food even when we aren’t hungry is common. It is up to us to know how to discern when to eat, when to refocus, and went to stop eating.
I have struggled with this for some time. It is strange to me how the thought of food will keep popping into my mind.
If I know that I have something scheduled while I am away from home, the idea of “what will I eat when I’m out” comes to mind.
I am learning that I don’t need to be concerned with “what will I eat”. I know I will not go hungry.
It can be easier said than done sometimes.
But if I am leaning on God for help, then it really should be easier said and done!
It can be frustrating that I have this consistent need to keep thinking about “where I will eat” or “what I will eat”. It can be consuming.
CHANGE IN DIRECTION
I was a thin eater in the past. When I was younger, food didn’t seem to be a focus for me. I ate because I was hungry. But, I had other things that were my focus. Other things that I allowed to fill my heart.
Going to God in prayer for comfort and for direction is important to me. By eating food for comfort, I realize that I am not fully trusting Him.
Doing this journey half-hearted is making it harder for me. Even though I started this blog a year ago, and I haven’t seen too much change on the outside, I am seeing the change on the inside.
A change in my heart.
The change of my focus.
Ongoing change of strength in my faith.
I am committing to trusting God, and changing my focus from what I think I should be doing, to what God says He would like me to be doing.

REFOCUS ON GOD
Not all the distractions or refocusing efforts need to be big projects.
Refocusing can be as simple as a thought adjustment, or a step in a different direction.
Think about the amount of time we have spent eating, thinking about eating, and preparing to eat, regretting that we ate. That is a lot of effort!
The key is seeing how you can find peace without eating.
Asking yourself how you find peace and be productive may help. What do you enjoy, AND what joy can you find with your creator.
Changing your focus can be extremely helpful.
What we want to be mindful of is that we aren’t changing one toxic habit for another. Like instead of eating, you go shopping. Do not go from eating to another habit that can be just as obsessive, toxic, or destructive.
It’s important to find a few simple solutions that won’t be addictive, just helpful. Prayer and tapping are instant redirection tools. Once you interrupt your thought process, you can choose and activity on the list that sounds fun and replacing to you.
Have fun with this new life!
Things can change dramatically now that food isn’t the main love in your life.
For something that can feel so complicated, this list can make refocusing simple.
Change your focus away from food by connecting with God and redirecting yourself. Each time we choose to put God and our health first, we are choosing LIFE!
We are choosing to following all that God that has planned for us. Because now we can see Him, we can focus on Him, we can be available for Him.
It is exciting! We have been blocking all that God has planned for us. Pray for direction and enjoy your new found time!
