A Prayer for Comfort
As we work through the reasons we have struggled with food, we can shift our focus to God instead of food.
Instead of going to food for our comfort, we can rest in our Father’s arms knowing that he can give us an even better feeling than we can ever experience in a bag of chips.
The habit of going to food for comfort, eating when we are not hungry, and reinforcing it with the mean things we say to ourselves, can be eased with a simple prayer.
Faith can seem complex sometimes, but I don’t think it needs to be.
Overcoming the desire to use food for relief can be substituted with the love of our Father. It doesn’t need to take days, weeks or months to make progress.
I know from personal experience that God can take away desires that we no longer want.
He can do it in the blink of the eye. When I surrendered a struggle I had in the past, I’m not kidding you, it was overnight. I was a new person.
Obviously, I have more work to do in the area of food. Recognizing my behavior, knowing I am not always trusting that God has my back to take care of my needs, is the beginning. I’m always a work in progress. We all are.
There is no judgement.
I am pouring my heart out to you and be VERY vulnerable.
I am admitting that I am looking in unhealthy places for comfort. I’m sorry that I haven’t turned to you. Please help me to change that.
I desire to learn how You can fill me better than any food can. Feeling your presence is my desire.
I pray Lord for your comfort, peace and direction with my health.
May I turn to You FIRST when I get frustrated, sad, or angry and not to food.
My hope is that you will nudge me, to remind me when I am in auto-pilot mode, and that I am not paying attention to my actions.
You are able to supply all my needs, including comfort. I pray that I will seek you and no other.
